Handy PHP is now offering new Joomla SearchBot creation service. The JoomlaBoard SearchBot and SMF SearchBot were a lot of fun to develope and seem to be very useful to many people. As a result, I have decided to develope more SearchBots since there is bound to be a need. I've decided to stick with SearchBots for now since they are by far the most useful addition any webmaster can make to his/her site and there are so many components that don't have a SearchBot packaged with it. It is really quite frustrating to have a new Joomla Component that can only be searched from inside the component! Most users don't understand thatyour website has a different searchbox for different sections so when they don't get results from the wrong searchbox, they give up and leave your website!
The really odd part about the SearchBots is that compared to a component, they are very simple to develope. You really need to be pretty good at PHP to design a decent component that actually works but given a roadmap and access to the database, nearly anyone could get a SearchBot to work! Think about it, all you really have to do is search the database for items that match the searchterm. Of course, there are a few things that an experienced programmer will add to a SearchBot for usability and security be trust me on this, they are really easy to develope!
So why don't the developers of the components offer a SearchBot with their components? I think a lot of them get lazy toward the end of the ddevelopement. It is a lot of work to design, debug, and hopefully release a new component and maybe the module or two that goes with it. The developer just wants to be done with the project and get on with llife or maybe think about what the next release might be like to develope. But what actually happens is as soon as the package is released, there is about a million little bugs that come out of nowwhere that need to be fixed!
Request for any SearchBots will need to be made in the forums and requests for Mambo SearchBots will also be accepted. Other scripting requests may be made elsewhere in the forums as well.
