Perfomance loss adding LOWER statement? 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi Vujsa and people of the forum!

I was reading about performance increases eliminating all LOWER statememts before any field in Joomla searchbots (1.0.x version at least).
Explanations of this are based in the argument that, by default, MySQL searches are not case sensitive. So, adding LOWER statements in WHERE clauses may increase the stress in database.

What do you think about this?
I didnt't tried anything yet, but I need your opinion like my favorite expert in Joomla searchbots

I'm running an Intranet site whit a constant and very stressfull use of searchbots: Any gain of performance wil be gold for me.
Some searchbots I've developed are plenty of LOWER, only to mimic the bots made by original developers of Joomla.

So...What do you think about this?
