Well, after some difficulty in learning the authorization system utilized by phpBB, a SearchBot for Joomla has finally been released. It has been tested to work with the following configuration but may work with other configurations:

• Joomla! 1.0.11 Stable


• phpBB 2.0.21


• Mehdi's Phpbb bridge

This SeaerchBot has the following options available:

• Choose between "Mehdi's Phpbb bridge", "Unbridged", or "No Bridge".


• Choose to strip out BBC from search results.


• Set relative path to the phpBB installation.


• Set the database prefix used for the phpBB installation.


• Section Name.


• Search result limit.

This SearchBot should work with "Integration Joomla Phpbb2 by Przemo 1.0 RC4" if you use the unbridged method and set the path correctly.
Other, non-bridged phpBB installations may also work by using the unbridged method.
Using the unbridged method will limit the effectiveness of the SearchBot as it will only determin if the user is a guest or a member and as such will only display results for those user levels. This means the guests may only get results from forums that are ALL READ and ALL VIEW and all other registered members will only get results from ALL READ and ALL VIEW or REGISTERED READ and REGISTERED VIEW! At this time, that means that even Admin will only get registered user level results. This is because there isn't an authorization system in place to handle phpBB installations without the "Mehdi's Phpbb bridge".

Future versions of this bot may include a broader range of phpBB installations but for now only the single bridge is fully supported.

Joomla! and phpBB MUST share the same database.
